Death Valley teaches simplicity in the extreme

Most of us Americans have closets and cupboards and garages and basements full of items we’ve acquired and don’t really need, stuff that gave us a temporary high and then quickly faded into uselessness. I’m as guilty of this as the next person, yet one of the primary insights I gained from our recent circumnavigation of Death Valley National Park was how much we really need to exist and how accumulation can distract us and even interfere with getting our basic needs met. “Harder than Everest”: Death Valley NP Circumnavigation complete

Death Valley, Calif., August 13, 2012 — Extreme endurance athlete Marshall Ulrich and fire fighter Dave Heckman have finished an unprecedented expedition, going on foot around the entire perimeter of Death Valley National Park during the hottest part of the summer, completely unaided and unassisted.
